Crystal Cleansing & Charging
Crystals are powerful energy centers, able to absorb and redirect energy as it comes. This is why it’s important to regularly cleanse and charge your crystals throughout your practice. Doing this releases negative energy your crystal may have absorbed and sends it back to the light; restoring the crystal to its natural state, and allowing you to work with its healing properties as intended.
When a new gem comes into my path, I always start by cleansing my crystal. The safest method, and my personal favorite, is smoke cleansing. This method involves lighting an incense stick and holding it with your dominant hand (giving hand), slowly circling the crystal clockwise and surrounding it with smoke. As you do this, focus on the crystal and set your intention. I like to say, “I cleanse you of all negative and unwanted energies and send it back to the light.” I then make sure to send it extra love and prepare it to be charged. The reason this is the safest method is because the next method involves using water.
Similar to humans, showering your crystal with cold water can be the perfect reset your stone may need to be cleansed and restored to its natural energy state. Although a great cleansing method, water should be used with caution as some crystals can deteriorate in water. A safe way to remember which crystals to keep away from water is to look at the end of their name. If it ends in “ite” it’s usually not water friendly (Selenite, Celestite, Malachite, etc.). Once your crystal is cleansed, it is ready to be charged!
Did you know that crystals can actually lose their charge? Because of this it’s important to regularly charge your crystal. My favorite way to charge my crystals is by using the amazing, high-vibrational energy stone, Selenite. A powerful healer, Selenite has the ability to charge other crystals! Not only is Selenite beneficial for us as humans, its powerful energy works in combination with other stones - charging them and further amplifying their power. Take a flat Selenite stick and place your crystals across the top of the stone, leaving them for a couple hours to charge. One of my favorite things to observe when prepping my gems to charge is while slowly lowering them down to the surface of the Selenite stick - feeling the magnetic pull as the crystals bond together. Repeat this motion a few times to get a feel for the energy pull and let us know if you can sense it too! Another great method for charging your crystals is by working with the solar and lunar energies. Simply place your crystals on a window sill or a safe place outside, and leave them to absorb the energy of the sun or the moon. Personally, I prefer to charge my crystals under the lunar energy of a full moon, but you can work with the moon cycle depending on the intention you wish to set.
