Crystal Shape Meanings
Crystal healing, at its core, is the practice of harnessing the energetic properties of a crystal for therapeutic purposes. Every crystal is formed by the earth in a unique process which results in a wide variety in crystal types, colors, textures, qualities, and shapes. These qualities determine the way that the crystal interacts with energy sources and, in turn, influence how you can use a crystal for healing. This post will provide an overview of the most common crystal shapes and how the shape channels energy. Keep in mind that different types of crystal can be found in the same shape (ex. amethyst and tiger’s eye can both be found in points) and most shapes are created when the crystal is cut from the earth (by human intervention). Points
Points can be created naturally or artificially and are one of the most common shapes. There are many varieties of crystal points like wands and towers. Crystal points are powerful directors of energy as energy is funneled through one (or two in double-terminated points) part of the crystal. In healing, crystal points will channel energy off when pointed away from the body and will channel energy inward when pointed toward the body.
Example: Place a single quartz point away from any part of your body and the crystal will draw energy carrying pain and disease out of the point.
Clusters
Clusters are a collection of naturally-formed points bedded into a base. Crystal clusters are power energy amplifiers as energy will buzz off of the many points which elevates energetic frequencies. In healing, crystal clusters are great for transforming the energy of the physical environment and other crystals.
Example: Place an amethyst cluster next to your head to draw out electromagnetic frequencies (EMFs) and enhance intuition.
Geodes
Geodes, similar to clusters, are a collection of naturally-formed pointed bedded into a base except these points are directed inward towards themselves. For this reason, they hold and slowly release energy while also amplifying energy as it passes through the many points. In healing, geodes can be used in spaces for protection, intuition, curbing overindulgence and temptations, and provide a gentle sense of calm.
Example: Place an amethyst cluster near someone overcoming addition as amethyst is known for its sobering effect and geodes for their curbing of cravings.
Spheres
Spheres are typically shaped artificially to form a (mostly) perfect ball which emits energy equally from all sides. Crystal spheres have been used for centuries to observe the past, present, and future. In healing, spheres can also be used for meditation and to connect you to other sources of energy.
Example: Meditate with a fluorite sphere to connect to your Higher Self.
Cubes
Cubes can be formed naturally or artificially and are excellent at storing energy. For this reason, they are often used for grounding, stabilizing, and anchoring. Some crystals found naturally in this cube form are fluorite and pyrite.
Example: Place cubic crystals in each corner of your room to stabilize, ground, and protect.
Pyramids
Pyramids, formed naturally or artificially, have a point and a four-sided base. These extremely powerful shapes amplify energy in the base and channel it though the point. In healing, pyramids strengthen manifestations, draw off negative energy, and remove energy blocks.
Example: Place a crystal pyramid in your fridge to protect and preserve food.
Eggs
Egg shapes, often called palm stones or massage wands, are great for relieving stress and anxiety. Their shape allows them to hold energy and remove energy blocks in the body. In healing, eggs can be used with acupressure or reflexology techniques to alleviate muscle pain and cramps.
Example: Hold a rose quartz egg in your hand to release stress and enhance feelings of love and support.
Natural Raw and Tumbled Shapes
Many crystals can be found tumbled or raw in an amorphous form, meaning they have no particular shape. Raw crystals maintain their rough edges while tumbled stones have been mechanically tumbled to create smooth edges. These stones are magical because energy flows uniquely through them!
Example: Hold the stone in your hand while meditating and connect with the energy as it flows through the natural curves and grooves of the crystal.
